Investment Management Services

At Union Bancaire Privée (UK) Limited, we value active management and diversification, integrating global economic outlooks with expertise in asset allocation, investment selection, and portfolio construction.

You can access our investment process and expertise in a way that suits you. Many people opt for our discretionary management service, where we construct and then manage a portfolio on your behalf. Those clients with the time and confidence to make their own investment decisions often prefer our advisory or execution-only services. Whichever route is right for you, you’ll have direct contact with the people responsible for managing investments and providing advice.

Become a client

Discretionary

You may wish to delegate investment decisions to our experts, either because you do not have the time or the immediate access to market information to make timely investment decisions. Or perhaps you simply prefer to entrust an investment professional with your financial assets. UBP offers three discretionary investment management services:

Funds Service

Your portfolio will be managed and implemented using one or more of the funds from the range managed by Union Bancaire Privée (UK) Limited; these are chosen to meet your risk profile and investment objectives. These funds provide an efficient means of accessing our investment philosophy and process.

The Fund Range

Discretionary Portfolio Service (collectives)

Discretionary Portfolio Service (collectives): Your portfolio will be managed and implemented using a range of collectives or other instruments where appropriate. The asset allocation will be managed according to our investment philosophy and process to ensure that the portfolio continues to meet your risk profile and investment objectives.

Discretionary Portfolio Service (direct)

Your portfolio will be managed and implemented using equities and government bonds where we consider it suitable. The asset allocation will be managed according to our investment philosophy and process to ensure that the portfolio continues to meet your risk profile and investment objectives.

Advisory

You make the final decision on your investments with advice provided by our investment management experts. We provide you with the expert investment knowledge you need to make informed portfolio decisions, allowing you to stay in control of your investments. Advice can take many different forms, and we offer a holistic approach to help you make investment decisions:

  • Asset allocation: Defining a global asset allocation overview of your portfolio, will allow you to quantify your risk tolerance
  • Recommendations: Once we have defined your optimal asset allocation with you, we help you build your personalised portfolio and provide you with investment advice based on your requirements and our investment convictions.
  • Risk management: We monitor your portfolio and may recommend new investment ideas consistent with your investment profile and changing market conditions.

Execution Only

This enables you to invest directly in markets with no investment advice provided by our experts. If you are passionate about making your own investment decisions and simply require a platform to execute orders, this is an ideal option.

  • We offer different levels of service to add value to your trading experience, combining security, trading freedom and speed of execution.

  • You will have access to our dedicated execution teams who can discuss your requirements in detail and place your orders for you. Our team in London can provide you with publicly available information and key trading metrics on your investments as required, and work with you to execute your investment decisions quickly whilst also minimising price impacts.

Succession planning for external asset managers: securing continuity and building the future

For external asset managers (EAMs), succession planning is a strategic priority. Demographic changes, rising client expectations, increasing regulatory complexity, and the need to attract younger talent are all reshaping the sector. In this piece, Union Bancaire Privée’s (UBP) Nadège Lesueur-Pène, Head of Wealth Management Developing Markets & Europe, and Anja Karcher, Head of EAMs Basel, provide some guidance on how to achieve a smooth handover.

UBP Weekly View - AI worries weigh on equities as central banks keep rates on hold

Major central banks mostly held their interest rates steady last week, with the US Federal Reserve (Fed) and the European Central Bank (ECB) preferring to wait and see what happens. Global equities edged lower as the technology sell-off extended into a third week, with investors focussing on the gap between artificial intelligence (AI) spending and free cash flow. Bonds gained on lower yields, while gold traded lower on modest positioning adjustments and its sensitivity to equity markets.

UBP Weekly View - AI spending doubts and French stress weigh on markets

Global equities slipped for a second week as investors questioned whether debt-funded artificial intelligence (AI) spending can earn adequate returns. US Treasury yields fell back below 5%, while French government bond spreads reached their widest levels since the eurozone crisis. Hyperscaler earnings and a string of major policy meetings make this a decisive week, though most central banks are expected to leave their interest rates unchanged.

EAM Team: Powered by Partnership

The External Asset Managers (EAM) team at UBP is driven by one idea above all: partnership that delivers. They focus on making it easier for external managers to serve end-clients, combining reliable custody with access to markets and experts. The aim is simple and ambitious: to help EAMs accelerate their businesses and raise service standards for their clients. In practice, that means proximity, speed, and solutions that work at scale.

Crude oil refining: its impact on what the consumer pays

Oil prices are usually quoted as the future price of crude oil, with Brent and WTI being the main benchmarks. However, the economy relies on refined products such as diesel, petrol and jet fuel rather than on crude oil itself, and the cost of turning the one into the other is the refining margin, or ‘crack spread’. Adding this spread to Brent gives a proxy for what the end consumer actually pays, and on that basis the average price is currently around USD 140–180 per barrel.
