In early May at the Landmark Hotel in London our Alternative Investment Solutions (AIS) team held its third annual hedge fund conference. The event featured thought leaders in the hedge fund industry and our UBP experts who discussed the outlook for alternatives for the year to come. As a key player on the world hedge fund stage, UBP presented its capabilities and the strong case for considering alternatives as part of investors’ asset allocation for 2025.
This year, in response to investor demand, the speakers went into more detail specifically about UBP’s own methods, convictions and strategic view for hedge funds. Showcasing our own experts – including Susanna Wallis, Anthony Murphy, and Fredrik Langenskiöld as well as the team co-heads, Kier Boley and John Argi – to present UBP’s investment approach alongside external partners with whom they work closely provided attendees with concrete and actionable insights for their portfolios.
Externals join UBP speakers for topical discussions
Addressing over 100 guests including 70 clients, John Argi, UBP’s Co-Head of AIS, opened with ‘Understanding the leading role of the UBP AIS platform’. This was followed by an interactive discussion with Kevin Cole, CEO and CIO of Campbell & Company, on ‘Benefitting from investor irrationality’ and with Doug Pardon, Co-CIO of Brigade Capital Management, on ‘Where to extract performance from credit markets’. The conference also included a panel discussion on trade ideas – ‘The three U’s of investing (Undervalued, Unloved, Underowned)’ – with Guillaume Fonkenell, CIO of Pharo Management.

With heightened uncertainty in the world and increased market dislocation, this conference provided guidance on where to find investment opportunities, whether in core markets or beyond, and how to make the most of them through hedge funds.
UBP Alternatives Conferences in the Middle East
The week after the London event, UBP hosted an alternatives event centred around both hedge funds and private markets at the Waldorf Astoria in the Dubai International Financial Centre. The conference attended by 80 guests featured presentations by John Argi, Brice Thionnet (Head of Private Markets), and an external speaker from a prominent hedge fund management firm.
