"Horizontes“ by Eileen Hofer

UBP employees and their guests attended the Zurich premiere of „Horizontes“ by Eileen Hofer. This private viewing has been exclusively organised for UBP which supported the work of this Swiss film-maker.

This intimate event took place at the Houdini cinema and started with a light apero welcoming the guests followed by an the introduction of the movie by Eileen Hofer and a Mojito reception after the premiere.

“Horizontes” was inspired by Alicia Alonso, the “prima ballerina assoluta”, who began losing her sight at 19 but still pursued an outstanding career. The camera of Eileen Hofer, a former journalist, records not only the dancers’ pain, sweat and tears as their bodies are bent by work and perseverance – bodies that have become tools – but also their hopes, dreams and courage.

Dancing the Cuban dream

Geneva film-maker Eileen Hofer’s movie Horizontes about ballet in Havana must be one of the most poetic documentaries ever made. Through bewitching images, it follows the lives of three ballerinas at different stages of their careers, telling their story in moving detail. One of those dancers is Alicia Alonso, the now 95 year-old who defied her advancing blindness to become one of the greatest ballerinas in the world. Horizontes could not have been completed without the support of Union Bancaire Privée (UBP).
