Funds of hedge funds
UBP has been investing in hedge funds for nearly 40 years. In the 1970s we were among the first companies to recognise the potential diversification benefits and risk-return opportunities the asset class offers, and in 1986 we launched our first multi-strategy fund of hedge funds, which is still going strong.
Today, we believe that funds of hedge funds should be used in a new way. Thematic funds of hedge funds can be used as a surrogate for the underlying asset class in which they invest, providing similar return potential but with much reduced volatility. Meanwhile, multi-strategy funds must ensure they live up to their diversification role through greater use of asset allocation techniques and overlays.
As a result of our experience in the industry, the size of our investments and our long-standing relationships with top hedge fund managers, we are viewed as one of the main participants in the hedge fund world. We have become a natural “first call” for hedge fund managers seeking to raise assets, and we are often given access to elite or closed funds.
